ChipLog (thechiplog.com) is operated by an individual, not a registered company. This page explains what data ChipLog collects, why, and how to reach us about it. It applies to every tool on the site.
Some tools on ChipLog can be used freely, with no account or identifying information required. Others — or advanced features within a tool — may require an account or an email address to use. Where that's the case, it will be made clear within the tool itself before you're asked for anything.
The figures and information you enter into a calculator are used to compute your result and are not stored beyond that — nothing about them is linked to you or your device. If a particular tool offers saving, exporting, or sharing a result, that tool will say so explicitly and explain what's kept.
Some tools show a short, optional feedback prompt after use — mostly picking from preset options, with a short free-text field for anything preset options don't cover. Submissions aren't linked to your identity: we don't ask for your name or email as part of this prompt. Please don't include personal information in free-text fields — anything you type there is stored as entered. We use a device-local setting (not a tracking cookie) to remember that you've already seen or dismissed a prompt, so it isn't shown repeatedly; that setting stays on your device and isn't sent to us.
We use a privacy-friendly analytics tool to understand overall traffic — page views, referring sites, approximate location (country level), and device/browser type — plus occasional events marking that a particular action was taken (e.g. a calculation was run). This tool is cookieless: it identifies visitors using a daily-rotating, anonymized signal rather than a persistent cookie or any personal identifier, and it doesn't track you across other sites. Because of that, no cookie-consent banner is shown.
Where a tool requires or offers an account, we collect the email address, password (stored in hashed form, never in plain text we can read), and any organization or profile details you provide. We use this only to operate your account and are not currently using it for marketing.
We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Any tool that involves payment will disclose that clearly and handle it through a dedicated payment provider, not through information we collect and store ourselves.
We use reputable third-party providers for hosting, data storage, and analytics to operate ChipLog. These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments; we don't sell or share your data with anyone else.
Tool inputs: not retained at all, unless a specific tool states otherwise (e.g. an explicit save/export feature). Feedback submissions: kept indefinitely to inform what we build next, unless you ask us to delete a specific submission (see below — since submissions aren't linked to your identity, we can only locate one if you can describe it, e.g. by approximate date and content). Account data: kept for as long as your account exists, and deleted on request.
You can ask us what data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask us to stop processing it, by emailing privacy@thechiplog.com. For anonymous submissions (like feedback) we can only act on a request if you can help us identify the specific entry, since we don't hold anything else to look it up by.
ChipLog is a professional tool for the maritime industry and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from children.
If what we collect or how we use it changes, we'll update this page and its "Last updated" date. We don't currently have a separate notification mechanism for changes, so please check back periodically if this matters to you.
